Gorgeous ampersand from Kevin Wada (see it in all its glory in our most recent issue).
You can check out all our ampersands here.

Here’s a figure I did for the end of year edition of The New Republic.  They include some variation of an ampersand in each edition, and this time they wanted to go with a superhero themed one.  The ampersand has been the symbol of TNR since it’s founding in 1914.  So the challenge of the piece was to make a superheroine in 1914 inspired garb.  I had no.  Idea.  What.  To.  Do.  How do you combine elegant, but stuffy, 1914s female fashion with a superhero?  It struck me, finally, to look into turn of the century circus performers for inspiration, as they would be wearing clothing that might most resemble a superhero.  And here’s what I came up with!  She’s sort of like a Wonder Woman-esque amazon with long mermaid locks.  Let me know what ya think ;).

My piece for the “Fangamer ♥ Attract Mode” show that will take place in Seattle on August 30th at 1927 Events. All of the participating artists were given the theme “love” in relation to games, so I drew a boombox that had been modified to play “Pong" complete with Commodore game paddles. There’s plenty of love behind DIY game projects.I named it “Games People Play”, a reference to a Kurtis Blow-produced Sweet G tune my older brother played often back in the day. I always preferred the instrumental version. It will be an 18”×24” (slightly larger than A2 for all you overseas fine art moguls) giclée print for sale. For more details regarding the show (performances by Mega Ran and virt!), check out:http://attractmo.de/get-ready-fangamer-♥-attract-modeand/or itsFacebook event page:https://www.facebook.com/events/576269005812524

I haven’t done a “What’s in Your Bag?” a.k.a. “What’s in My Bag?” in years, so here’s one; more or less. I left out the gold bricks, 9,000 carat diamonds, priceless Van Gogh phone doodles and the one-pound block of the lapis lazuli that Michaelangelo used to make pigments for his Vatican fresco. I’m carrying that, too; in a box designed and hand-built by Leonardo da Vinci.
